Indeed, while many were planning to enjoy the sunshine and take part in water activities on the Verdon, the region\u2019s lakes experienced <strong>extremely low water levels<\/strong>, forcing some water sports operators to close or restrict certain activities. But what\u2019s the real story behind this situation? We\u2019ll explain everything.   <\/p><\/div><div class=\"columns\"><div class=\"columns__item\"><h2>Drought and Falling Water Levels <span class=\"fc-span\">in the Verdon Lakes<\/span><\/h2><p    >For months, the Provence-Alpes-C\u00f4te-d\u2019Azur region had to cope with a severe <strong>drought that<\/strong> caused <strong>the water level of Lake Sainte-Croix<\/strong> (Var) <strong>to drop by<\/strong> as much as <strong>4 meters<\/strong> due to a lack of rain and snow in the Southern Alps the previous winter!<\/p><p    >In fact, the navigable area of France\u2019s third-largest lake has turned into a \u201cpeninsula,\u201d forcing the region\u2019s water sports centers to adapt. Even though some activities are no longer possible, <strong>there is still much to be done<\/strong>, as we will see later. <\/p><div class=\"lireplus fc-desk\"><p    >Read more<\/p><div class=\"group\"><div class=\"group\"><p    >Speculation about the <strong>water level<\/strong> is rife, so the Sainte-Croix tourism office is working to reassure visitors to the Verdon.
