In the Verdon, there is always a perfect moment to book a romantic getaway with your partner, whether you want to relax by a river, hit the trails, sip local wine, or simply unwind. Our campsite in the Verdon, L’Oasis du Verdon, located 36 km from the Verdon valleys, invites you to the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence to discover a legendary place with many facets.
There is nothing quite like a romantic stay in the heart of the Alpine lands, in the Verdon Valley, where Green Provence blends enchanting nature with charming Provençal villages. Castellane is an emblematic town, perched on a hillside at the gateway to the Verdon Gorges. Far more than a simple tourist stop, Castellane is an ideal base from which to explore the region.
If the Verdon Gorges attract so many visitors, it is also because they are the largest canyon in Europe, reaching up to 700 metres in height in some places. Landscapes shaped over time by limestone erosion make this destination truly unique in France and across Europe.
The crystal-clear waters of the gorges have a special feature: they originate directly from the largest glacial lake in Europe, Lake Allos. Located in the Mercantour National Park, a highly protected and stunning natural area, it marks the end of the Mercantour range, which extends to the Maritime Alps near the French Riviera. Surrounded by larch trees and marmots peacefully roaming the grass, Lake Allos offers breathtaking views to enjoy without moderation.
The Verdon Lake is the perfect place for unique activities and, above all, for letting go during a romantic weekend away.
For a complete change of scenery, start your morning with a peaceful horseback ride along the rivers and picturesque lakes of the Verdon. You can also opt for a road trip along the Verdon Route des Crêtes, a 24 km loop around the canyon. This route can also be explored on foot or by electric bike. Stop from time to time to admire breathtaking panoramas, explore medieval villages, and marvel at the shimmering blue waters of the canyon.
Hiking enthusiasts will be delighted by the 1,500 hiking trails in the surrounding area. The Blanc-Martel Trail is a popular 16 km route linking the towns of Palud-sur-Verdon and Rougon.
In the afternoon, try canoeing adventures, paddling your way to hidden lakes and caves within the gorges. Kayaking is by far the most popular activity in the Verdon. The gorges are also highly sought after by fans of free climbing.
The canyon walls offer more than 800 climbing routes suitable for all skill levels. Their height ranges from 250 to 700 metres, and the most renowned spots include Paroi Rouge, Baume aux Pigeons, Escalès, and Dérobée. You can rent a variety of water sports equipment near our campsite near Lake Sainte-Croix. If the shores of this lake feel too calm for your taste, head instead to Palud-sur-Verdon or Rougon.
After a full day of fresh air and mountain breezes, be sure to end your day with a romantic dinner before returning to the campsite for some well-earned rest. Le Mur d’Abeilles and La Bastide de Moustiers are two exceptional venues where you can enjoy an intimate dinner for two.
