As the smallest sub-prefecture in France,
Castellane
is a charming Provençal village in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and ranks among the most beautiful villages in France. It lies close to Rougon and La Garde.
Located upstream from the Gorges du Verdon,Castellane is part of the Verdon Regional Natural Park.
Its territory is crossed by the GR4 long-distance hiking trail and includes two dam lakes, Castillon
and Chaudanne.
Castellane is located 15 km from Lake Sainte-Croix and only 30 km from Grasse and Draguignan.

At the crossroads of the Mediterranean and the Alps, at the entrance to the majestic Verdon canyon, Castellane is an authentic town of character with an exceptionally rich heritage. Nestled between the Luberon and the lavender fields, the valleys and hills of the Var in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, its narrow streets reveal facades, cobblestones and other treasures from medieval times. Numerous hiking trails can also be found nearby.
Perched above the Verdon between Lake Castillon and Lake Chaudanne, the town is dominated by the monumental Roc Notre-Dame, a listed site rising 184 meters high that overlooks and protects Castellane.
Much of Castellane’s territory is made up of the Pre-Alps and is crossed by the Route Napoléon at the Col des Lèques.
Its long history and spectacular landscapes make Castellane an ideal destination to unwind and relax, as well as to set off on an adventure in a stunning and unspoiled environment, bathed in Mediterranean sunshine.
