A peaceful, rejuvenating nature destination in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, this small Verdon village, listed among the most beautiful villages in France, is nestled in the heart of Europe’s most stunning canyon. Lovers of wide-open spaces, breathtaking scenery and unspoilt wilderness know it well: whether you’re here for a short break or a longer stay, La Palud-sur-Verdon is an ideal base for exploring the Verdon Natural Park, the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and all their treasures and leisure activities. Stroll through the village’s charming streets and admire beautiful faience.
On its territory you’ll find Point Sublime, one of the most impressive viewpoints along the Route des Crêtes, overlooking the gorges and especially the Samson Corridor. Don’t miss the legendary Blanc-Martel trail either, for a hike deep in the rocky canyon and a walk through a tunnel nearly 1 km long.
The Saint-Maurin Nature Reserve in the heart of Provence is another precious area to discover in La Palud-sur-Verdon: at the entrance to the Verdon Gorge, its meadow terraces and numerous waterfalls can be explored on foot. Head out on a hike and discover the lower gorges, the Verdon Regional Nature Park, the Verdon canyon, or the lavender fields of the Valensole plateau. La Palud Castle is also home to the Maison des Gorges du Verdon, an eco-museum devoted to the gorges area and its natural riches, the history of its geological formation, and human settlement over the centuries. Near La Palud-sur-Verdon, you can also visit the charming villages of Gréoux-les-Bains, Salles-sur-Verdon and Moustiers-Sainte-Marie. End your day in comfort with a holiday rental at an open-air campsite.
Pont du Galetas beach is families’ favourite spot for swimming in La Palud: at the exit of the gorges and where Lake Sainte-Croix begins, swimming is supervised and many water sports activities are also available.
More spectacular but harder to reach, the Styx du Verdon is a “canyon within the canyon”, accessed via the Imbut trail. Its pools and potholes are perfect for a dip as part of a canyoning outing.
