A visit to the Château de La Palud-sur-Verdon is also a must. This monument dates back to the late 14th century. Renovated several times, it now houses the town hall and the Maison des Gorges museum. During the French Revolution, this historic monument was confiscated, divided into lots and then sold to the residents of La Palud. The castle’s terrace and gardens offer truly breathtaking views. During your stay in Palud-sur-Verdon, make sure you take the Route des Crêtes du Grand Canyon. Stretching for around 24 kilometres, this panoramic loop offers spectacular viewpoints. Showcasing the legendary Verdon cliffs, the route can be travelled by car or motorbike. Ideally though, take it by bike. It’s certainly challenging, but there’s so much to admire along the way, it’s absolutely worth the effort.
Allow around one and a half to three hours to complete the route. By stopping at the 14 viewpoints, you’ll overlook the legendary Verdon. Don’t miss must-see spots such as la Carelle, l’Escalès, la Dent d’Aire and Guègues. As you go, take time to observe the canyon’s unique flora and fauna.
