The Caves of Villecroze

The Caves of Villecroze are located 8 kilometers from the Verdon campsite and are particularly known for being part of the troglodytic caves, meaning they were carved directly into the rock. These caves were formed 700,000 years ago, at the end of the last ice age, and are witnesses to a distant past. The Caves of Villecroze are situated in the municipal park and extend across five levels, all open to the public depending on the season. They feature several distinctive elements such as mullioned windows and arrow slits. Inside the caves, there are columns that were once stalactites, transformed over time. Surrounding the Caves of Villecroze is the famous waterfall, a stunning waterfall that enhances a tree-filled park at the base of the cliff. In addition to all these natural beauties, two works by Jean Laugier, a local artist from Draguignan, further elevate the site.
