The Ceramics Museum in Moustiers-Sainte-Marie
A charming museum located next to City Hall in the heart of the historic village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, the Faïence Museum traces several centuries of a unique craft that long made the village famous.
The traditional art of earthenware making is particularly renowned in Moustiers thanks to the use of a very high-quality local clay that allows for the finest ceramic work. In the 17th century, Moustiers earthenware was famous throughout the kingdom and was the only tableware used at the court of Louis XIV, where it replaced silverware.

The museum displays the finest examples of Moustiers earthenware, adorned first with cobalt-blue designs and later with more colorful and whimsical—sometimes grotesque—motifs. The museum displays a total of more than 300 pieces in charming rooms and sumptuous display cases within an 18th-century mansion.

Tours for Groups and Individuals
Admission to the earthenware museum is 3 euros for full price and 2 euros for reduced price. Admission is free for children under 16. Self-guided tours are available. Guided tours are offered for groups of up to 25 people at a rate of 4 euros per visitor. The museum is open on weekends in November, December, February, and March; every day except Tuesday during Zone B school breaks and during the months of April, May, June, September, and October; and every day in July and August. It is closed annually in January. The earthenware museum has a gift shop. Many other earthenware workshops and shops are scattered throughout the village.
